• Is Snoop Dogg An Unknown NFT Whale?

  • Is one of the most well-known names in hip-hop history an NFT whale? It shouldn’t surprise us if Snoop has a growing NFT collection, but speculation is rife this week following a Snoop Dogg tweet in which he claimed to be a respected NFT collector known as Cozomo de’ Medici.

We’re Curious: Who Is The Whale?

The @CozomoMedici Twitter account recently announced that they were going to dox themselves, adding that their “fame was considerable.” The Twitter account was only created in August, but it has amassed a sizable following in the crypto and NFT space in a relatively short period of time.

The account spent a few days building up some buzz, running a Twitter poll and sending out other tweets to elicit speculation about the person behind the account. Cozomo even offered 1 ETH to the first investigator who could figure out who they were.

Shortly after, Snoop Dogg’s Twitter account posts the following tweet:

@Levhiboy quoted Snoop’s tweet and responded to Cozomo, who declared him the winner of the 1 ETH reward.

Is Snoop Dogg the real Cozomo de’ Medici?

    NFTs & Snoop Dogg

It should come as no surprise that Snoop is mentioned in relation to NFTs.

Cozomo’s NFT collection on OpenSea includes over 200 NFTs with a variety of art pieces (including many Snoop-inspired pieces). According to reports, the value of Cozomo’s NFT wallet is around $17 million, with nine CryptoPunks and many other sought-after pieces.

Furthermore, Snoop’s Twitter avatar is an NFT from his collaborative collection with the creator of Nyan Cat. That wasn’t his first time working with NFTs. Snoop released his first NFT series, “A Journey With The Dogg,” in collaboration with Crypto.com in late March.

There’s no doubt in our minds that Snoop has some NFTs lying around. Nonetheless, we should be skeptical of Snoop Dogg’s claim to be Cozomo de’ Medici. While Snoop is no stranger to NFTs or alter egos, Cozomo’s knowledge of the subject is unparalleled. Cozomo could be in a relationship with Snoop, or he could have paid Snoop Dogg for the engagement.

In any case, Cozomo is certainly well connected – if their wallet status didn’t already indicate that. Cozomo received a shoutout on Twitter earlier this month from music artist Jason Derulo for their assistance in securing Derulo with a CryptoPunk.

All of this points to a hazy conclusion. Regardless, if things continue at this rate, don’t be surprised if you hear a Cozomo reference on the radio one of these days.
