Platform for earning money by playing games Axie Infinity has surpassed popular basketball-themed trading card game NBA Top Shot in terms of weekly transactions involving non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
According to data, Axie Infinity accounts for 53 percent of weekly NFT transactions, while NBA Top Shot accounts for about 45 percent. Other projects, such as CryptoPunks and Meebits, contribute the remaining volume.
Since its launch in December 2020, NBA Top Shot has accounted for the majority of weekly NFT transactions, but its number of transactions has been declining since late June. Axie Infinity, on the other hand, has grown in popularity, with its number of daily active users increasing by more than 230 percent since the end of June.
In fact, the platform, created by Singapore-based game studio Sky Mavis, has grown at such a breakneck pace that its server has struggled to keep up. This has resulted in a number of shutdowns in recent weeks.
The platform of Axie Infinity now has over one million daily active users. It became the first NFT platform to reach one billion dollars in total trading volume earlier this week.
