• BinanceUS chooses a CFO to lead the exchange after the abrupt departure of Brian Brooks

  • Following the abrupt departure of CEO Brian Brooks, Binance.US has appointed one of its longest-tenured employees to lead the crypto exchange, according to two people familiar with the decision.

Joshua Sroge, who joined Binance.US as chief financial officer in January 2020, was chosen by the exchange’s board to serve as interim CEO.

Brooks, who was previously the acting head of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, announced his departure from Binance.US on August 6 after three and a half months on the job.

Brooks stated that his departure was motivated by “differences over strategic direction.” Brooks had been declaring Binance for months prior to the announcement. Binance had a separate operating entity in the United States. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao owns both companies.

Sroge was previously a principal at FireStone CFO, a consultancy that provides budgeting, accounting, and financial solutions to businesses. Prior to that, he was the chief accounting officer at cryptocurrency firm ShapeShift, where he oversaw the company’s growth from 15 to 115 employees.

Binance.selection US’s was confirmed by a spokeswoman. Sroge did not respond to a request for comment.
